Originally from Maryland, Melissa found a new home in North Carolina while studying Environmental Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill. She spent her 20s farming, traveling abroad, and teaching hands-on environmental education. Completing a Permaculture Design Certification in Greensboro, NC inspired her to return to school for double master’s degrees in Horticultural Science and Landscape Architecture at NC State University.
Melissa approaches design from a deep working knowledge of plants in the landscape and keen attention to children’s experiences in the outdoors. She serves on the board of Keep Durham Beautiful and is pursuing Landscape Architecture licensure in North Carolina.
Melissa lives in Durham with her husband Michael, kids Amaya and Daniel, dog Atlas (Addy), and wild garden.
